Navigating the guidelines of the DOT Return-to-Duty process is challenging. But even if you’ve failed a drug and alcohol test, it doesn’t mean you’re unemployable. FMCSA Clearinghouse-reported drivers and other DOT-covered employees with a verified drug and alcohol program violation are prohibited from performing safety-sensitive functions until he or she complete the return-to-duty process. The employee must be evaluated by a trained substance abuse professional (SAP). Our SAPs will complete your evaluation and oversee your progress until your treatment plan is completed.

What is a SAP Evaluation
A DOT SAP evaluation is the initial step in the DOT return-to-duty process after an individual’s non-compliance with a DOT drug or alcohol test. The evaluation is conducted by a certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), who will determine the course of education or treatment required and provide referral options. This evaluation is the cornerstone for determining the employee’s readiness to return to safety-sensitive duties.
Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs) are responsible for protecting the public interest and safety by providing comprehensive evaluations and recommendations. These clinical evaluations are unique to each employee who has violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation. Recommendations include appropriate education and/or treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare. DOT will not accept evaluations performed by a non-qualified SAP and will delay your return to work. Fines may be imposed on any employer who uses a non-qualified SAP for the required evaluation.
We provide evaluations for most DOT (FMCSA, USCG, FTA, FAA, FRA, PHMSA) agency-covered employees and non-DOT evaluations for those who comply with the drug-free workplace whose employees are not subject to DOT regulations.
